Redondo Beach Criminal Defense Case Histories

Case History #1

Charge: Misdemeanor violation of Penal Code § 647(b) – Solicitation of Prostitution:

A client was charged with a misdemeanor violation of Penal Code § 647(b). This matter was very sensitive as it was involving allegations of soliciting or otherwise engaging in prostitution.

The client lived in Redondo Beach and solicited prostitution by an undercover deputy who worked for the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department located at 11705 Alameda Street in Lynwood, California. Ultimately, my client was caught in the sting operation by the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department on Long Beach Boulevard in Compton, California. My client was charged pursuant to Penal Code § 647(b) after requesting a sex act from the officer.

At all times, I handled this matter with care, confidentiality, and tact. After advocating for the rights of my client at the Compton Courthouse and persuading the Compton District Attorney as to how the act was a simple lack of judgment, I obtained an offer from the Compton District Attorney to dismiss the matter upon my client’s completion of HIV testing and few days of community service near his home in Redondo Beach.

I helped my client throughout the entire process by obtaining the proper HIV testing forms and finding the proper locations near Redondo Beach for his court-ordered community service. I was extremely careful to keep the matter confidential at all stages of the case. I was always making sure that my client was alone when I called and never left any identifying information on his cell phone or otherwise.

Case Resolution:

Upon completion of the above requirements, the case was dismissed. My client escaped the system without ever having this charge that carries great negative stigma on his record.

Case History #2

Charge: Domestic Violence:

Domestic violence cases almost always two sides to the story. What often adds to these situations is the element of children, which sometimes involves the Department of Child and Family Services (“DCFS”) and/or Dependency Court. Our firm handles these issues in addition to any criminal matters.

A professional living in Redondo Beach and his wife had always had a tumultuous relationship. The wife provoked the husband in Redondo Beach stating that she had a Redondo Beach attorney and that she will not permit him to see his daughter. On the evening of the arrest, the couple got into a disagreement near their home because the husband stated that the wife was too drunk to handle her child. They become relatively physical. The wife then called the Redondo Beach Police Department who later arrested the husband.

Upon returning home from jail, the couple received a knock on the door of their home. DCFS had arrived to determine if the couple was a threat to the children. After the parties placed restraining orders on one another, DCFS ultimately removed the children from their custody. This is when the client came to me.

The ultimate goal at this stage in the matter is to stop the criminal case from being filed at all. I worked quickly to explain the above circumstances to the Torrance District Attorney. I further explained to the Torrance District Attorney that the arrest should not result in a criminal case filing. While some issues of borderline domestic violence did exist in the marriage, the circumstances were such that two responsible adults were handling their divorce, children and personal safety in a way that did not justify criminal consequences.

Case Resolution:

Upon further discussion with the Torrance District Attorney, the case was ultimately rejected. I have been practicing in the area of domestic violence and am well versed in helping my clients through the Department of Child and Family Services and/or dependency court. I understand these issues can be extremely dramatic on families and I strive to demonstrate compassion to ease the situation and achieve the best possible result.
