Los Angeles Rape Reported – Uber Driver Accused of Raping Customer

June 23rd, 2017: Los Angeles Rape Reported – Alaric Spence, an Uber driver from Los Angeles, has been charged with three felony counts that include kidnapping, rape by use of drugs, and rape of an unconscious person. Spence has been driving with Uber for 6 months and is believed to have done something like this before according to LAPD Captain William Hayes.

Spence picked up a 24 year old woman from downtown Los Angeles before 3 in the morning and was set to take her to her final location. All the victim could recall was “falling asleep and her waking up to an unfamiliar place the next morning,” according to Captain Hayes. He was reportedly seen carrying the unconscious victim up to a room in a hotel on Lankershim boulevard by security footage at about 3 a.m on Friday. Hayes believed that he was “brazen” in his actions which leads to him to believe that perhaps this isn’t his first assault.

With the surfacing of Spence’s five prior felony convictions, city officials are urging that the state require companies like Uber to be more invasive when conducting background searches.

Uber has reportedly been more than cooperative and will give the police department anything they need in order to better aid them in their investigation.

Councilman Paul Krekorian of the North Hollywood area suggests that the state update their laws requiring fingerprint based screenings to occur prior to hiring just like taxi companies require.
