Long Beach Criminal Defense Case Histories

Case History #1

Charge: Grand Theft Embezzlement in violation of Penal Code § 487(a)

A client living in the city of Long Beach had previously been arrested by the Torrance Police Department located at 21311 Hawthorne Boulevard, Suite 220 in the city of Torrance. Being represented by a different law firm, she was convicted by the Torrance District Attorney of Grand Theft Embezzlement in violation of Penal Code § 487(a). She then came to my law firm post-conviction in an attempt to terminate probation and expunge the conviction from her record.

The conviction consisted of embezzling thousands of dollars from her Torrance employer. My client explained that she had expenses including that her child, who lived with her in the city of Long Beach, had been diagnosed with a serious and expensive illness. Moreover, my client had a large amount of school tuition, for which she was having difficulty paying. This financial pressure contributed to the embezzlement of funds from her employer located in the city of Torrance.

By all accounts my client was a great student, hard-worker and dedicated mother. I prepared a motion to terminate probation early and expunge the misdemeanor conviction. I included extensive legal argument, a declaration of my client explaining the circumstances surrounding the conviction and multiple exhibits identifying why the judicial officer of the Torrance Court should grant my motion. I presented these documents to the Torrance District Attorney.

Case Resolution:

Upon examining the evidence that I had presented, the judicial officer of the Torrance Court granted my motion. Because of these efforts, my client no longer has a criminal record.
